Abundance is good!
You can never have too much fruit. We're looking forward to crates of oranges, clementines, pomegranates and more.
Not so long ago, periods of abundant fresh fruit and veg every year were taken for granted. After a big feast, we canned as much as possible and then waited until the next harvest season.
This seasonal consumption still makes sense today. It is much more eco-friendly than the constant availability of everything. With seasonally planned abundance, we reduce our CO2 footprint and the amount of food waste.
This is true even if you can't use up all your fruit and vegetables. This is because in the conventional small-scale system, on average around a third of the food produced is lost between the field and the plate. This loss is practically non-existent with us.
New (old) consumer behaviour through bulk packaging
Bulk packaging seems counterintuitive, as it supposedly leads to more abundance and therefore potentially to more food waste. However, it actually leads to a change in our behaviour and promotes a new (old!) way of consuming: eating seasonal fruit until you drop, sharing it with family, friends and neighbours or preserving it for later.
And there's something else important: when we have so much tempting fruit at home, we eat less unhealthy food. This makes the system even more environmentally friendly, because fruit has a much better carbon footprint than other sweet foods.
So don't be afraid of abundance! Enjoy the sunny side of the cold season to the full and benefit from additional discounts on three or more boxes of fruit.
