Pineapple Rings Cayenne Lisse
Organic
Togo
Our dried pineapple rings, made from the Cayenne Lisse variety come from the Maritime region of Togo. Around 150 family farmers grow them there on small plots averaging 0.5 hectares.
Only the best and largest pineapples are suitable for the rings.
Smaller fruits or those with blemishes are dried in pieces. Regardless of the quality, all processing is done locally, with much of the work done by hand at our long-standing partner Setrapal.
We have been working with the company since 2001. They were the first to dry organic pineapples in Togo and are now the most important buyer of fresh pineapples from family farmers in the Lomé region.
The pineapple rings from Togo taste sweet and slightly sour at the same time. They are neither sulphurised nor do they contain added sugar. The dried fruit is an excellent alternative to fresh pineapple and is available all year round.

ABRA DOKE
FARMER FROM GBATOPE, TOGO
My favourite time is after the harvest because that's when we have cash.
"My occupation as a farmer allows me to meet our basic needs. We have food and I can send my seven children to school," says Abra Doke. "But it's not easy for us financially." The family grows pineapples on 0.12 hectares of land and would like to expand. But they don't have the money. "We'd like to receive a loan from gebana and for gebana to guarantee that it will always buy all our fruit."
