ABRA DJAGBE
FARMER FROM DZOGBEPEME, TOGO
The best part about farming is seeing the ripe produce after the harvest.
"It would be best not to grow old at all," says Abra Djagbe, laughing. But she knows it's impossible. "A balanced diet is much more important for improving my health." The farmer cultivates a mixed plot of cocoa, plantains, maize and beans. She relies on these crops to feed her family – her husband, his concubine and four children. "My grandparents already used organic methods," explains the farmer. "It's my duty to leave the soil in the same good condition for my children, just as my grandparents did for me."
