Avocados
These avocados of the Hass variety come from family farmers in Kenya who grow their fruit on an average of 0.8 hectares. Since Kenya is relatively rainy, the avocado trees of the farms manage with no artificial irrigation. The fruits are not sorted by size, you get both small and large ones in the same box. The avocados arrive hard, and you ripen the fruit at home.
How much is that?
4 kilo is approximately 12 to 26 avocados. The number varies depending on the size of the fruits.
Use & preparation
Storage & shelf life
When stored in the vegetable drawer of your refrigerator at a cool temperature, the fruit keeps for about 10 days. Store the avocados that you would like to eat within the next few days at room temperature in a paper bag together with an apple. If the flesh gives slightly when pressed, the fruit is ripe. Check the avocados for bruises and minor damage as soon as you receive them. If you find mould, remove the affected fruits from the crate.
